Playing with scraps

It's always a fun challenge to me, and a great way to kickstart my mojo. ;)

I have a whole green container dedicated to my scraps - what do you do with your leftover card scraps? Throw them away? Keep them? Pass them on?

hello

....AMURICA!! I am (finally!) back in the good ol' U.S. of A!

Plot twist: this isn't actually a Valentine's Day card. I didn't even realize how Valentiney this looked till now...about a half year later from making it.

The Wink of Stella makes up for any faults though (darn, I love that stuff)

God bless!

A Lot Like Christmas

My last final is finished, and all I have to do before I return home is clean! Soon I'll be like the sleigh here, flying back home..;)

It actually doesn't look very much like Christmas here in Gaming - it's been pretty dreary. I think the mountains are hiding a lot of the sunshine away for themselves.

Paper Crafts Thank You

I'm not one to get sappy.
For one, I'm not good at it - I end up bawling all over the place and making people feel awkward as they try to calm the mess that I am.
Two, I have to take something very seriously to get to that point.

Which is why when I heard the news of Paper Crafts closing its doors, I wasn't sure what to do.

I've been pretty detached from cardmaking lately, after going a whole three months without it. Even before I left for this semester, I'd been slacking on the submissions game.
So honestly, it took me a day or two to fully realize what an impact Paper Crafts magazine, it's staff and community has made upon me - and I do not write that lightly.

I was going to try to shoot for short and sweet on this post (see Reason #1 for not being sappy), but, this is my chance to let the Paper Crafts staff know how they've affected me, and though I've passed the opportunities before to spare anyone from second hand embarrassment, gosh darn it, it's got to be said, so without further ado;

Dear Paper Crafts magazine staff,
I've been papercrafting (more specifically, cardmaking) for about a good seven years now, when a friend gave me a stamp set for my thirteenth birthday.
At first, it was just a distracting thing to do when I got bored.

But you made it real.
Fun.
Amazing.

I distinctly remember sitting in a library one summer shortly after, flipping through a magazine I had stumbled upon, and after finishing the last delicious page, wondering and wishing if I could ever be in a magazine like that.
Some years later, you made my wish came true - my first Paper Crafts card, which happens to be extremely fitting for this occasion.

You were the light switch for my current crafting energy.

I could go on and on about the excitement of that first acceptance (and honestly, the same excitement every acceptance thereafter), of seeing the project in a printed magazine, of frivolously spending that paycheck on more stamps, but I think you realize that already.

Having projects published was the (pardon the analogy) nail in the coffin to my passion for this craft. Unlike a lot of other crafters, when I first started, most of my family and friends thought it was rather silly (though they didn't discourage me), so when I started getting published, not only did they begin to take my hobby, no, craving, more seriously, but it also gave me personal encouragement.

But even before I ever had that first card published, you were such an inspiration to me.

I, someone who before could care less what was trendy in any sort of world, be it fashion or interior decorating, was actually starting to notice - and use! - some of those trends, to my own crafty delight.
You got me excited to try new techniques, to get dirty and tackle some of those time-consuming stamping endeavors (and I am not a dirty hands or patient person, so that's saying a lot!)
You got me to take initiative, to submit those darn projects, at the risk of rejection.
You pushed me to be more timely (though we both know that was/is still a big struggle bus for me ;))

Really, I'm a little afraid of getting back home and knowing that I won't have your monthly (and special issues!) awesomeness to look forward to, but know that for as a long as I've "known" you, you've been a huge driving inspiration for my "crafty life".
And also...

(I have no idea how a gnome relates to the content of this post, but hey! He's cute! And things are getting awful sappy and messy here, so we need something random to lighten the mood!)
Thanks. A lot.
Love, best wishes on your future endeavors, and God bless!
Clare

Distracted

...that's how I feel, and so that's the kind of card I have for you today.

I wanted to try to shove as much pretty stuff on one card as possible, but this time, it didn't quite work out for me.
For the glitter border, I took one of the Maggie Holmes sticker borders and added glitter to the back. Easy peasy, nice and squeezy.

But speaking of pretty stuff...

Anyways, that's all for me today - peace out!

I miss

...a lot of things, but most especially, my family's faces! Only 25 more days!

So, in case you can't tell because of my poor design skills, that little guy with ribbon coming out of the bottom and top of his face is a watch.
Yep.

Man, it looked so much better in my head.
Ah well.

Purple Struggle

I'm over at the Pinkfresh blog today, and people, things get pretty real there.

Here's the thing.

I have a problem.
A problem with purple.

I don't know, but I just struggle with that color.
In my home, in my wardrobe, and even in my card room.

But one day, I decided to change the fates and face my fear.

And, armed with some gorgeous Pinkfresh goodies, it actually wasn't too hard.

For this card, I used the glitter washi tape (MMM! I just love me some glitter!) on the wood veneer chevrons. I love how the wood veneer comes in such great, basic shapes, so if the times call for it, you can easily customize them to suit your purposes.

Again, some more glitter tape, and then some yumlicious enamel hearts to top it off. For the sentiment, I first placed the washi tape on scrap paper, and stamped using Staz-on ink, Then I stamped Versafine for the card base, removed the washi tape from the scrap paper, and placed it over the sentiment on the card base. I just found that the Staz-on ink stood out a little better on the glitter tape, and but I liked how Versafine stamped on the cardstock, so I used both.

So, take that, purple!

Current score;
Clare: 3, Purple: 176

Oh yeah.

Moooove me

While I can't make any cards in Austria, I can start cleaning out my old draft closet, and start posting some old cards.

I had the cow all stamped and layered, and built the rest of the card around it.

I have a lot of detail pictures...I used to do it all the time, but I've stopped since I felt like they were unnecessary, but what do you think?

I still love these coconut buttons.

That's the oldie for today! Thanks for stopping in!

The Best

...in the West. I can't wait to get back to good ol' Pennsylvania!

I was inspired to use a pretty little fabric rectangle from SEI, and then put some scraps together to finish it up!

I dunno, I'm just a sucker for the chalkboard look - I love how stark white embossing on black cardstock looks.
Speaking of embossing, and cardstock, and cards, MAN! Do I miss cardmaking! It's a good thing I always have school or I'm traveling, because my fingers are positively tingling to make something! I've already taken some pictures to inspire future cards when I get back. ;)

But for now, here's one of the many pictures I took during a beautiful weekend in Switzerland...

...missing home! I'm already prepping for Christmas, and trying to start work on the end of the term papers. I'm so ready to make Christmas cookies while dancing to the Nutcracker with my little brother!

I seriously love the Mama Elephant Alphabet dies - perfect font, perfect size! Also, this Lucky Charm paper may be one of my top paper collections of all time.

Fresh Watercolor

I'm over on the Pinkfresh blog today with some fresh watercolor cards!

I had SO much using Sweet Dreams stamp set! For this card, I used Staz-on ink so that the image wouldn't run after I went over with the watercolors.
After stamping, I sprayed the panel with water. Then I pressed my blue ink pad against a clear stamping block, added some water, then used a brush to apply it to the panel. I used more concentrated ink on the top, and more diluted water for the bottom.
Once the ink had dried, I used my paintbrush to "paint" clouds using only water. Then I placed a paper towel over the clouds while they were still wet, and picked up the wet ink, creating the shadowy clouds you see here!

Does this pink watercolor circle look familiar? Yep, I totally stole it off the logo. ;)
I masked off the circle for this card, and added the pink ink like I added the blue ink to the card above. Then I flicked some water on the card, and again, picked up the ink with a paper towel.
To achieve the smear affect, I added some water to the right side of the card, and dragged it off with the paper towel.
I then topped with off with the sentiment/image stamp from the Limited Edition Kit, and some cute Pinkfresh wood veneer hearts!

So there you are, two super easy but super fun watercolor cards!

Thanks so much for stopping in and have a fantastic day!

I Like Your Face

I'm feeling slightly funky tonight, so I searched awhile through some old card drafts, looking for a "sassy" number.
This ain't sassy so much, but it's as close as I could find.

I colored the wood veneer with nail polish - I love the different effects you can get with different nail polishes. For instance, the green and yellow letters almost have a Glossy Accents look to them IRL, while the blue and red look more like really stained wood.

Anyways, let's keep this post sassy, sweet, and short.
Peace.

My Happy

...that's what cardmaking is for me, so the fact I haven''t made a card in 1.5 month is KILLING ME. It's a good thing I have a ton of school and traveling to keep me distracted most of the time.

Anyways, here's one of those little happies of mine...

Not to brag, but I feel pretty suave and all with the fact that, using a Versamark brush, I wrote that "happy" part of the sentiment! Don't ask me to write more than one word though, otherwise things get messy and illegible QUICK. ;)

Quick card, quick post - I miss cardmaking land and all of you so much!

Freshening Things Up

As forewarned, this blog has been sadly neglected, but since I'm sick and not feeling very studious, I thought I'd pop in with a nice bouquet of flowers to freshen things up. :)

I made this card quite a while back, inspired by THIS pin,

Stamping and arranging these flowers was so fun and relaxing.

Pinkfresh Studio is so excited to join with Pretty Little Studio today to inspire you with some cute creations. Pretty Little studio is known for their vintage inspired products which are so fun and colorful. And mixing them up with unique and colorful Pinkfresh Studio embellishments definitely has created awesome projects. We have a list of designers from both companies here who are so thrilled to share their projects with you. Make sure to visit each blog and comment on each blog to enter a giveaway including Pinkfresh Studio blog. One winner will be chosen for each day and winners will receive 30.00 worth of stuff from Pinkfresh Studio and 30.00 GC from Pretty Little Studio. This is going to be two days of blog hoping fun. Winners will be announced on 9/15. Good luck!

Welcome to day one of the blog hop!
Pretty Little Studio has the CUTEST die cuts, papers and embellishments, and I had so much fun playing with them! I particularly liked their die cuts, and I just love ALL of their gold sticker products.
So I combined my two favorites, Aster Gold Ribbons and Poppy #2, along with some patterned paper on my card, and then a Pinkfresh Studio stamped sentiment to tie everything together!

For my second card, I decided to go the opposite route and focus on the stamping, topping off the subtle background created with the Think Less Live More stamp set with the adorable Frisbee.

Isn't he just adorable?

Only a few more stops to finish up today's hop! Thanks SO much for joining me!!

You party animal

...I just love THIS sentiment from Avery Elle, and thought it went perfectly with the fox on my card today.

I made this card right before I left for Austria, so this is for the Foxy Foxes Challenge in the Moxie Fab World. Honestly, I'm a little sad that not many people play along with the Moxie Fab challenges any more, especially because most of them are so fun!

For little Mr. Foxy, I embossed his face with clear embossing powder, then I brushed the cardstock with cornstarch right before my next layer of embossing. This helps the embossing powder stick only to the places I put sticky ink.
Then I took my Versamark pen and "colored" in the face, then embossed it in white. Another thin layer of cornstarch (just to make sure the embossing powder didn't stray) and then the last embossing, with orange. The cornstarch brushes off without leaving much, if any, residue, and is very helpful, if you don't have an anti-static embossing brush.
The embossing powders I used were pretty cheap, which is probably why the fox's face is a little blotchy.
I topped off Mr. Foxy with a fun wreath stamp I was dying to use, a gem, and then adhered it to the card base, with the sentiment already heat embossed.

Thanks so much for stopping in today and God bless!

Missing You

...it's been a crazy couple days getting accustomed to Austria, and tomorrow, we venture to Salzburg!

This is just a quick card I made quite some time back....

I used Tattered Angels shimmer spray for the background, and once it was almost dry, I flicked some water droplets on it and pressed a paper towel over it. I removed the paper towel, and that took with it some of the ink, leaving some the white drops you see on the card.

For this card, I was totally inspired by THIS pin - I'm not quite satisfied with how it turned out, so I may try again later. For the flower, I used the Remember set, then inking up only the blossom part of the flower, I used the second and third generation stamping technique to get a more full effect for the flower.

Thanks so much for stopping in and God bless!

The Here and Now

...twenty four hours from the "now", I'm going to be flying across the ocean to spend a semester in Austria!!!!

I just wanted to quickly pop in before things start to get really crazy. First, a card I made a while back just for fun.

I actually can't remember now, but I think I made the pink watercolor splotches with Tattered Angels mist, let it dry, then stamped and heat embossed the sentiment with clear embossing powder. Then, I went over with some pigment ink, and cleaned the embossed sentiment off with a baby wipe. It was very techniquey and made me feel like a pro....like Jennifer McGuire herself! ;)

Anyways, onto to that second thing - while I'm in Austria, I hope to blog semi-regularly HERE (and post cards on this blog irregularly). I don't have a lot of set plans for what I'm doing in Europe other than studying, but I'm going to try to post places I'm going to visit when I find out I'm going to visit. So, if any of you international cardmakers see that I'm hopping around to your side of the pond, let me know! We could try to meet up, or, if not, you could give me some tips for must-see/must-do things. :)

Thanks so much for stopping in today and please say a prayer for my (and my fellow students) safe travels tomorrow!

Happy

...keep those sunglasses on, because I've got another super bright card to share with you today!

I was playing around with WPlus9's Fresh Cut florals (hello, I need their new Fresh Cut Containers...but seriously...too bad I have to save for Austria), trying to achieve THIS look. It's probably just my color choices, but I'm not super pleased with how it turned out. The Studio Calico inks are awesome for the second generation look, and I took advantage of that here, but particularly with the navy ink, the stamp would pick up some of the ink when I stamped the flowers partly over an already stamped image, so the inks started running together, giving it a rather blobby look.

I plan on giving that pin another go, and also posting it here, so you can see the results. ;)

Thanks for stopping in today and God bless!

Happy Little Moments

Hey, I'm over on the Pinkfresh blog today, chattering all about happy little moments! And when I'm happy, I love to go BRIGHT, so make sure you have your sunglasses all ready to go! ;)

For my first layout, I chose to go with the primary colors, using some Neon Brad stickers, colorblock wood chevron (the triangles would work as well), and then some yumminess from the Fresh Inspiration kit.

I have a thing for sticking these adorable enamel stickers right on top of my photos. ;)

I used one of the canvas pockets, and then cut out the circle from one of the transparent cards from the kit. It has such an interesting texture, that reminds me of a summer pool floatie - perfect for this summer themed layout!

I used more bright colors for second layout, using the same staples of the enamel stickers, canvas tag, and wood veneer.

With this one though, I added a bit of washi love to bring out the red in the photo. Only using the one half of the ombre tape can give you more usage if you only want to use one of the colors for a particular project!

Mmmm, I just love me these canvas tags. In general, I like to have my notes and messages on my scrapbook layouts "hidden" so that I can write something really personal if I want to gift the layout to a friend. And why yes, there are more of those dots on my picture. ;)

Hope you've retained your vision after walking through these layouts with me! Have a wonderful day, filled with happy little moments! :)

Thanks so much

I'm popping in with an "old" card today - I have a ridiculous amount of drafts gathering dust right now. I used to write up posts as soon as I had taken pictures of the card, and then just post when I needed to/felt like it, but since school started last fall, I just couldn't keep up.
So the fact that I have around 200 written drafts (combined with the cards I never wrote posts for) should give you an idea of how many cards I haven't blogged yet.
It's pretty ridiculous.
Anyways, here's that card...

This was made for a fabric call a good while back.

Mmmm, just love these Doodlebug gems (and I don't typically go for gems)

Hello

I haven't forgotten you, I've just been a wee bit busy lately, with preparing for Austria, work, and quickly fixing up my new photography site.

Pretty much follows what I did for my blog here, but I played a little more with Illustrator, and I dunno, but I just think it's cool that my handwriting in a 'logo'. ;)

Anyways, a card for this weeks Simon Says Stamp Make It Sparkle challenge and Through the Craftroom Door Anything Goes challenge.

This card is just a bunch of my favorite things - lots of die cutting, glitter, colors, and heat embossing! Plus, "making up" sentiments by combining different stamps and die cuts is so much fun!

To make up my little absence (and because I need to pass this on before it becomes "old news"), I decided to give away a Maggie Holmes 12x12 Styleboard paper pad to someone who commented within the past two weeks. Some random scrolling, hand-covering-eyes later, and the mouse has chosen Cristine! Yay! Cristine, if you could e-mail me your address, I'll try to get out this paper pad ASAP to ya! Thanks to everyone who's been so kindly leaving comments - I hope to return them soon, and when I get back from Austria, have more random giveaways. ;)

Thanks so much for stopping in and God bless!
